Workshops and Teaching

At present Sue is working with her company HEAD FOR HEIGHTS on translation workshops for the Chilean plays Mistral,G (1945) by Andres Kalawski and Painecur by TeatroLaFamilia. These are funded by the British Council and King’s College, London and are aimed at producing final translations this year which the company will then go on to produce. From 2018-19 for four months she was a Guest Professor in acting for film at the Shanghai Vancouver Film School.

Alongside her working life as a Director Sue has continuously been employed in running workshops with fellow artists, (directors, actors and writers) and in training students. From 2004-2014 she was Head of the MA in Directing and the MA in Text and Performance at RADA. In 2010 she developed a new MA in training actors at RADA, MA Theatre Lab and was the Head of that Course from 2011-2013.

workshops1 She specialises in working with artists to access emotional memory and to link that with the demands of working on text or in developing a new text. She is particularly skilled in fusing the intellectual and the emotional through use of physical work.

In 2007 Sue directed a British Council funded staged reading (premiere) of Benjamin Galemiri’s Infamous Electra as a result in September 2008 she was invited to the Santiago Theatre Festival to run workshops with Galemiri on British new writing.

In November 2010 with colleagues from the Liverpool Playhouse/Everyman and the British council she directed a rehearsed reading of Lizzie Nunnery’s new play The Swallowing Dark in Sao Paolo and also ran workshops on new writing with both Directors and Writers.

She specialises in helping Film Directors understand how to work with actors and has created and run workshops for Film Directors on working with actors for CREATIVE ENGLAND, LFS and the University Of Essex (E15).

She regularly runs workshops for actors both here and abroad. In February 2014 she ran a four day workshop for Drama students at Taiwan National University on physicality and the text.

At present under quarantine circumstances Sue is running  online workshops on acting on film for directors and actors and on translation.
